My artwork focuses on subtleties in form, color and movement. I try to show the viewer beauty in simple organic images and shapes. When you see the different media I work in you will notice strong connections between them.

Had a fabulous day yesterday!
I am always trying to figure out how to combine my interest of nature, art and photography. I decided to make organic, free form cages for some very delicate seed pods I had been saving. Then I photographed them many times from different angles and under different light. These are the ones I really like! They were photographed under a simple cheap desk lamp.

I've been sketching and have discovered the beauty of combining drawings with photography. This is a fun new way for me to photograph ordinary small objects in nature and give them importance. I also loved the light in these particular photos.

These photos are stripped of almost all color and weight. I think the leaves feel like they are almost non existent.

I am continuing to experimenting with macro photography, this time taking small objects found in nature and placing them on white paper. This puts the focus solely on that object. I like the simplicity and the calm of the absence of a background. Please check out my new page: Focus Photographs

Exploring:
I love the way combinations of material show strengths and weaknesses. With some new pieces, I am exploring the balances of heavy and light, strong and weak and positive and negative space.
I will try to find some new materials and see what I come up with. These are the ones I have become comfortable with until now. Time to explore!

Hanging!
I think it might be interesting for you to see one of my paintings hanging. It shows the scale and the feeling of the piece in the context of its environment. I happen to have a very green wall in my living room that gives this painting a really organic vibe.

Done!
How do you know when your painting is really done and how do you stop yourself from overdoing it? For me, I use my instinct, but I don't always get it right. This one is done!

Almost done!
I'm feeling so much better! I was a little stuck with this painting until yesterday when I just got inspired to work on it. It has been very helpful taking pictures along the way. It gives me an opportunity to step away from the piece and just look at it in a different way ( on my phone or computer) and imagine the next step. It is a really different perspective for me. I also enjoy seeing the progress. I wonder if any of you work this way?
